ALL Our Fourths Are Belong To Us

July 4th, 6 years ago, was the day my fuzband and I started our sordid love affair!
(I say that jokingly, although there’s at least one person in this world who probably thinks it’s true…)

Even though it’s not the date that we got married, it’s still a very important date to us, and we don’t want to stop celebrating it!  So this year we had a cookout!  The one thing that he wanted to do was cook ribs.  The two things I wanted to do were – go to the river & make a water blob.
(what’s a water blob, you ask?  you’ll find out, just keep reading!)

In the morning we went to the river,

Fuzband was too afraid to have his phone out while on the river,
but I wanted at least ONE picture of each of us with each of the pups -
and here are the results of attempts to take a pic of Berferd and myself.
(hyper dog + sweaty hands + hard-to-hold-phone + trying to take a pic of oneself)

The we headed home to set up all the food and fun stuff for the afternoon cookout while…

There were many minor fiascos of course -
we ran out of propane after the ribs had already started grilling -
Fuzband ended up running back to the store 4-5 times to avert certain disaster.
Whew!

Of course – I was having so much fun with my little projects that I barely noticed!
(Oh, and I was also having gin & juice, so maybe that helped)

Thinking this would be way cooler than it was,
I put together a picture from lining up matches like dominos.
I thought it was going to look SO COOL when we lit it,
but honestly it was a little disappointing.
Oh well, you have to at least TRY!

Another project I was working on that day was melting wax.
(A lot more fun than it may sound)
Using a small canvas and a small box of crayons, I set them up on the easel then left it out in the sun ALL DAY LONG.
I had to keep moving the easel around the yard,
and then eventually out into the front yard, just to keep it in the sun.
It ended up being pretty successful.
I definitely want to try it again, with more “artistic direction” next time.

Once everyone arrived, we started filling up the water blob!
(the Fuzband and I had prepared it earlier while the ribs were cooking and the crayons were melting)
I REALLY wanted to add food coloring and glitter, but that unfortunately did not pan out.
I tried adding glittery puff paint – FAIL.  Don’t bother trying that – EVER.

I think that perhaps just me, the other water sign, and the three-year-old were the only ones enthralled with the water blob.  And yes, it was very leaky, and yes it killed my grass.
BUT WE (the 3 of us) HAD GREAT FUN!!

OH – and the RIBS – my mouth is STILL watering just thinking about them….

And now for the obligatory Fourth of July pictures…
(brace yourself for the absolute LEAST-EXCITING photos of fireworks ever seen)

(and this is where I wish I had a recording of the precious – and precocious – 3 yr old yelling to the man lighting the fireworks, it was the highlight of my evening – and his!)

“DO IT PHIL!!!”
